The Anesthesia Awareness Campaign, Inc. ("AAC")
is a non-profit organization founded in 1998 that is
dedicated to helping victims, providing education,
and working to prevent anesthesia awareness.
Anesthesia awareness, also called intraoperative
awareness or conscious paralysis, is the phenomenon
of being mentally alert while supposedly under full
general anesthesia. In some instances, victims are
able to feel excruciating pain but are unable to
communicate their awareness because they are
paralyzed by a neuromuscular blocker.
